MEDIATION for business owners
We work with business owners, SME (small and medium sized enterprises) and family owned businesses.
How does mediation benefit business owners? In business there many ups and downs. There is the excitement of growth, making plans and creating opportunities.
On the flipside there is the hard work, lesser years and difficult discussions between founders, managers, and customers.
difficult talks
It helps if the mediator has an understanding of what it it to be an entrepreneur. And how it is to have difficult conversations. Robert has experience as a co-founder and business owner. For years, he has his own (legal) company, worked in corporate teams and was a partners in a startup: together with three partners Robert founded Abracademy in 2015 in London; a learning & development start-up.
Clients benefit from his own learning points.
Relationship, money and the future
It is a reality that partners sometimes are often friends, and operate as trusted partners. It is in many ways like in a marriage. And like in a marriage, it is not easy to always speak out on certain topics like relationship, money and the future. This needs guided attention.
With customers it can be the same - the hard balance of being both dependable and having different interests, can lead to a strange squeeze.
Sometimes these conversations lead to irreconcilable differences. A mediator can help.
What does the mediator do?
A mediator is a trusted person that facilitates the conversation. At times, parties decide to split. Sometimes, the differences can be repaired and the relationship is continued.
disputes and team coaching skills
At exploreMediation, being also team coaches, we combine our knowledge on dispute resolution with team coaching. Building a healthy leadership team takes
trust
healthy conflicts
commitment
responsibility and
getting results (see Lencioni, five frustrations of teams).
Not always are these ingredients accounted for in a business team. This can lead to arguments and disputes.
In Short
This is what we do:
Usually 3-8 sessions. The solutions to be laid down in a short (settlement) agreement.
Conflicts in business: we mediate conflicts between partners or with 3rd parties: suppliers, competitors, banks and investors.
Conflicts within a Family business: Family has its own dynamics. When family and business are mixed interesting and sometimes explosive challenges arise – important to take the history and the future into account. Family systemic knowledge is used to assert matters.
No conflict yet: conflicts or friction may arise if teams are not aligned together. We do refreshers; realigning goals and values. Opinions, different interests and positions are shared in a conversational setting.
